Transforming a transformer manufacturer's tech stack to today's standards.
Client
Waukesha is one of the largest U.S. manufacturers of power transformers for electrical grids. The company provides its power utility customers with complete transformer service solutions as well as hardware components. As a 50-year old company, they had mostly legacy systems in place that struggled to keep up with newer technologies and demands. They came to Omniwyse for a series of key modernizations.
Challenges
Modernize nearly every part of Waukesha's older IT systems while avoiding the risk of conflicts with existing hardware infrastructure.
The core programs were written in a mix of Fortran and C, with no documentation. This required study of the overall algorithm and re-calculating.
The current, highly primitive user interface required a modern technology stack.
Their legacy-grade T146 and WDES needed several enhancements.
Solution Highlights
Moved the core system to a modern technology stack using Python.
Implemented additional enhancements and integrated other components, giving Waukesha's engineers a set of smoother, faster controls.
Moved all other transformer programs to a modern tech stack.
Made the Daisy system (T146 and WDES) programs run on new hardware with Windows or Linux OS.
All of the up-to-date programs were successfully migrated and fully optimized on
installation. Waukesha is now future-ready for any new integrations they may need.
